This week I’m taking on another Disney Princess and trying to beat the summer heat at the same time! I remember singing my heart out to the songs of Disney movies when I was a kid. The Little Mermaid was the beginning of a Renaissance of animated musicals, led by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, and one of my all time favorites! I hope you enjoy my Little Mermaid Ice Cream Cones.
To make the cones you will need:
- Waffle Cones (I used store-bought)
- Light Green edible Luster Dust/Pearl Dust
- A clean paintbrush
- Wilton Brand Green Color Mist
- Ice Cream
- Candy Chocolate Sea Shells – http://amzn.to/2vCLpl1
- 4 oz. White Chocolate (bar or chips)
- 2 Tbls. Coconut Oil
- Red Food Coloring (powdered or oil-based only)
- Cherry candy flavoring
- A food-safe squeeze bottle (optional)
Let me show you how it’s done!
- Make Mermaid Tail Cones: Spray the Waffle Cones with the Green Color Mist until fully coated. The spray is very messy, so spraying in an old shoe box or paper bag is recommended.
- Use the paintbrush and cover the still damp waffle cones with the light green luster dust. Again, this stuff gets everywhere, so be careful! Set aside. Note: I’ve been reading a lot of conflicting things about the safety of luster dust. The stuff I bought I found in a cake shop and I’ve seen it used countless times on things that were to be consumed. There was a note on the jar that said “do not use in food”. Sooooo I’m not sure how safe the stuff really is. If you’re worried about it, then just use the color mist and forego the luster dust.
- Make Magic Shell Hair: Place the white chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and heat on 50% power in short bursts, stirring in between until melted. If using a bar of chocolate, make sure to break it up into smaller pieces first. This can also be done in a double boiler.
- Add the coconut oil and stir to combine.
- Add a bit of food coloring and a few drops of cherry flavoring. Stir well until all coloring is incorporated.
- Optional: pour melted “Magic Shell” into a squeeze bottle. Set aside. If the shell starts to harden before you’re ready to use it, just pop it back into the microwave for a few seconds to remelt.
- Assemble: Put 2-3 scoops of ice cream into one of your green “Mermaid Tail” cones. Add two candy sea shells for Ariel’s bikini top, and drizzle with the Cherry Magic Shell for her hair. Optional: add other candy features for her face! Enjoy!!
And there they are – my Little Mermaid Ice Cream Cones!
